Sentinel RMS Network Licensing - Upgrading from Edgecam 12.0 and 12.5

With Edgecam 12.5, there was a new version of the Sentinel RMS licensing server software - version 8.2.0.800:

Note that version 8.2.0.800 includes support for installation on Windows Server 2008.

The server software is provided on the Edgecam DVD.

To upgrade your Sentinel RMS License Server

  1. Ensure that all users of the RMS network licensing have closed all Edgecam applications and return any commuted licenses to the pool.

  2. Using wlmadmin.exe, check that no Edgecam licenses are in use.

  3. On the server, stop the RMS License Server (open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Sentinel LM) and click the Stop button.

  4. In Add/Remove Programs, uninstall Sentinel LM Server 8.0.2 or Sentinel RMS 8.1.1 (as appropriate).

  5. Install the version 8.2.0.800 Sentinel RMS Server. This can be done from the main menu of the Edgecam DVD or by running setup.exe from the \Security Key\Network License Servers\Sentinel RMS\License Manager Installation folder of the DVD.

  6. Run the 8.2.0.800 version of wlmadmin.exe which can be found in \Security Key\Network License Servers\Sentinel RMS\Sentinel RMS Utilities\Administer and Monitor on the DVD.

  7. Install your new Edgecam license file in wlmadmin.exe by selecting your server under Subnet Servers. Now right-click and select Add FeaturesFrom a FileTo Server and its File. Browse for your license file, select it and click OK.

  8. Licenses can now be configured and used on the Edgecam client PCs.

What happens if you upgrade from Edgecam 12.0 or earlier to Edgecam 2009 R2, but do not update the RMS License Server?

Edgecam 2009 R2 will see the licenses and allow them to be selected, however, when starting to use Edgecam the licensing will fail and issue the message ‘Safenet Licensing failure. Valid Error Code (25)’.

You must upgrade your Sentinel RMS License Server to version 8.2.0.800 from the Edgecam 2009 R2 DVD.
